At T2 across the whole set, the Leitz Summicron-C’s are smaller and lighter weight than their T1.4 Summilux counterparts, along with being slightly less hyper-sharp, more neutral in color with less of a warm/yellow bias, and having slightly more saturation, contrast, and three-dimensionality. Leitz considers the Summicrons part of their ‘Character’ series, so while still being high-performing and precise, they have a slightly more rounded, centered performance with minimal distortion and zero-to-barely-perceptible aberrations.
If you are someone who enjoys ARRI Ultra Primes or Panavision Primos, the Summicrons are worth a test for your next project. They are sharp and honest, well-rounded, and with plenty of character you might associate with Leica’s reputation in still photography, with a classic, traditional cine lens bokeh (for the stills-lens style bokeh, consider the TLS Leica Rs).
